Meeting Facilitation
Effective meetings in today's environment that require a group to address complex, often multi-disciplinary tasks need more than the traditional chairman armed with Roberts Rules of Order. The term facilitator has emerged to reflect this new role of making the task of the group more "facile", or easier. Competent facilitation is both a science involving techniques, methods and skills and an art developed through the experience of balancing multiple personalities through unpredictable responses, reactions and revelations as they tackle the task before them. A good facilitator assures that group participation is effective, not chaotic, and that the scope of a group's effort is consistent with its authority to act. A well facilitated gathering elicits commitment from those involved, contributes to team building and encourages initiative, innovation and responsibility.
